Solutions
Water pollution in South Asia is very powerful and is impacting millions of people. Even with the increasing damage because of the increasing population, there is still hope to slow down and maybe stop water pollution. The two main ways to keep a hold on the water pollution in South Asia is prevention and monitoring. Many countries are or are planning on building wastewater treatment centers. Also, some of the countries such as India and Bangladesh are increasing laws and restrictions on releasing toxins into water. The population in South Asia, especially India is growing at very high rate. Because of this it is hard to enforce regulations on polluting due to the fact there are too many people to enforce. Government planning is key to the cleaning up of water pollution in South Asia and in the world, without it nothing will get done. In India, over 21% of disease is water related, and only 33% of people have access to proper sanitation(The Water Project). The governments need to be more as strict as possible and companies need to abide by the rules to ensure water pollution is stopped.
Another issue that could potentially lead to a solution is the Hindu people's views on water, especially rivers. The rivers are polluted daily by chemicals, human waste, sewage, and trash. Cleaning up the river is a very important part of ending water pollution. There are many organizations that are coming into South Asia and helping the cleanup process water. For example, The Water Project is helping bring more clean water to people all around the world. Crews are sent out to pick up trash, and also by boat to scoop the trash up in nets. Even actions like this by picking up trash helps end pollution. Facts that water is not safe to be in much less drink are everyone, yet people will still carry on daily life with the water. Even though is many places water isn't the safest thing to drink, if a polluted river is the only resource, they go ahead and drink/wash. One prime example of this is the Ganges River. The Ganges River is one of the most polluted rivers in the world, but it is also a very spiritual river. It is very hard to change peoples opinions and change their daily life because they believe it is too special to be polluted. A solution to help improve the health of people everywhere is by changing their opinions about the river. Although people being in the water and their opinions on the water can have an impact, the main solution to fighting pollution is maintaining a healthy water quality. In order to maintain and prevent water pollution these countries in South Asia must work hard and strong to help their countries for the better.
