Flora and Fauna of South Asia
Fauna
Pollution in South Asia has been a major influence to the Fauna of South Asia. Fauna are words used to describe the wildlife of the world. Pollution has come from construction, human waste, dumping, and factory chemicals. All of these waste products polluting the water and air are leading to a decline in the size of wildlife. One of the main problems is during the summer monsoon seasons, water overflows from it's river's bank and floods everywhere. Fish inside of the water are forced to live in awful conditions. The amount of coastal fish has been reduced by 10% to 30% from what it was 30 years ago(prb.org). The poor water quality which is very prevalent throughout different areas clearly affects the environment. From the water and sewage inside, the ambient environment and and richness of species in South Asia decreased greatly. Animals are forced to drink dirty water because there is nothing else to drink. Thus they become sick and die, and the cycle repeats causing an overall decline in the population of wildlife. |
Flora
Water pollution is destroying the flora of South Asia. As water floods and goes through forests, cities, and other environments it is bringing the pollution with it. The coast of South Asia is not one specific type of region. There are within 60-200 kilometers of shoreline which includes floodplains, forests, marshes, tideflats, beaches, dunes, and some coral reefs(prb.org). Each of these environments as well as cities are affected by the pollution in the water. It isn't just the coastal cities affected, all environments in south asia need water to prosper, and without clean water it is impossible. In water, nutrients like phosphorus and nitrogen help to create algae and the lower level of the food chain(. Excessive amounts of these nutrients from chemicals and pollution can lead to an overgrowth in aquatic vegetation. This greatly increases the process of bodies of water drying up and turning into pieces of land. It is also causing the destruction of many natural environments and the plant life that lives in them. |
